Challenge: Reliability in Demanding Drying Operation

The project for the GUODONG plant in China required the supply of an industrial centrifugal fan for the central drying process. The operation is characterized by high volume flows and the necessity for stable drying performance. The challenge lay in the combination of the extremely high performance of the unit – a volume flow of 486,000 m³/h at a pressure of 5,600 Pa – and ensuring maximum plant availability in the Asian region. The solution had to meet the high standards of Siempelkamp Industrial Fans, even though manufacturing was decentralized.

Siempelkamp Expertise: Design and Manufacturing Control

The engineers at Siempelkamp Industrial Fans utilized their decades of experience in designing drying technology and the capabilities of 3D design to develop an impeller perfectly tailored to the process parameters. With an impeller diameter of 2,900 mm and a required drive power of 1,100 kW, the design was optimized for maximum efficiency and minimal susceptibility to vibration. The entire design was developed in Germany, and manufacturing was subsequently controlled in China under strict quality supervision by the parent company to guarantee compliance with Quality Made in Germany even at the global installation site.

Reliability through Component Selection and Sensor Technology

To ensure the required high availability in continuous operation, special attention was paid to the bearings. The unit was equipped with robust, oil-lubricated bearings. A crucial element for process safety and fulfilling the full-service requirements was the integration of **sensor-controlled oil level monitoring**. This measure enables predictive maintenance and prevents bearing damage, which is essential for the longevity of such a powerful fan. The completed system at the site in China now guarantees stable and efficient process air guidance for the drying process.
