Challenge: Compact High Performance under Demanding Conditions

The application in the strip galvanizing line placed high demands on the fan, as it had to be integrated into an already complex and confined plant environment. Required was a fan that achieves a maximum speed of 3900 min⁻¹ (corresponding to a peripheral speed of 215 m/s) with a volume flow of 10,000 m³/h and a pressure of up to 350 mbar. This combination of high specific pressure and speed in a compact, customer-oriented design required very precise engineering of the mechanical components.

Siempelkamp Expertise: Aerodynamics and Bearing Technology

To cover the required performance range with maximum energy efficiency, the Siempelkamp engineers selected an impeller design with backward-curved blades. This design is known for its optimal efficiency and stable characteristic curve, which leads to a reduction in operating costs. The entire 3D design was validated accordingly to safely manage the high dynamic loads at 3900 rpm.

Reliability through Active Bearing Management

For maximum service life and smooth running at these high speeds, a special bearing solution was implemented: an oil bearing with an external pumping unit was specified. This external unit ensures constant circulation and active cooling of the lubricating oil. This measure reliably protects the bearings from thermal overload, drastically reducing the probability of failure and meeting the requirements for the operational safety of the critical galvanizing plant. The solution was perfectly integrated into the overall system as part of the full-service approach.
